About This Project

Each February, during Black History Month, BJCTA/MAX rolls out a bus to honor African Americans for their activism and achievements on behalf of civil rights. This year’s Black History Bus depicts images and quotes from four successful leaders who have made an impact in Birmingham, Alabama. Those featured are Janice Wesley Kelsey (Children’s Crusader 1963 and Author), Dr. Jessie Lewis (Founder and Chairman, Agency 54), Odessa Woolfolk (Founding President, Birmingham Civil Rights Institute), and Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth (Pastor and Civil Rights Activist).
